alex and max were here.

Keys

looks like the boys had a little fun on my antique hotel valet board. how do i know it was them? well, let's rewind a few minutes.

Keysboys

even if they hadn't been caught red-handed, it would have been obvious—

Keysalex

hello? power rangers? buzz lightyear? totally has alex and max written all over it. look closely at how cleverly they used the hooks. we've either got some creative problem solvers on our hands, or masters of torture. i'm going with the first.

Keys2

and look. a hot rod! something about this being a valet key holder with a car hanging on one of the hooks makes me smile.

Keys3

ps—next time you see max, ask him what a hot rod says. he does a pretty good impression.

oreos.

Oreomax

amazing. you hand a kid an oreo and they know exactly what to do. twist. separate. scrape. crunch. awesome.

don't tell them but these aren't really oreos. they are some new brand called whonu? they have zero trans fat, no hydrogenated oils, no high fructose corn syrup and have as much fiber as a bowl of oatmeal, calcium as a glass of milk and vitamin c as a cup of blueberries. hooray! so that means you can eat 10 at a time, right??

writing a letter.

the boys have started expressing an interest in learning to write, so we bought them these little ruled wipe boards with special markers. check out day number one with alex ...

Alexa4

with a little coaching from daddy ...

Alexa3

and a few pointers ...

Alexa2

... he made his letter!

Alexa

he was sooo very proud!

and then there was max. mr. mind of his own. check out his board!

Boyswriting

how awesome would it be to have an artist and a writer in the family?!

public service announcement.

Telephonebooth
a few weeks ago at hobby lobby i found the cutest red london phone booth replica and just had to bring it home for the boys. there was only one and my plan was to put it in alex's new room (max's room already has a few "extras" in it since it's larger). we decided to keep it in the dining room for a week or two until the newness wore off. that way there wouldn't be any hurt feelings.

since it was only temporarily there, we didn't tether it. big mistake.

it rained here all weekend and the boys were very cooped up. they were playing with their cars when it happened.

CRASH. and then screaming.

tripper was upstairs and i was in the family room so neither of us knew what the crash was, but the screaming brought us both running. we found the phone booth on the floor and alex next to it. he was screaming so fiercely that no sound was coming out of his mouth. it was terrifying.

after looking him over we found a large red mark on his shoulder where the booth had hit him on the way down. the force may have pushed him back or maybe he was smart enough to jump out of the way—i'll never know—but i am forever grateful that we got off this lucky. that was the only mark on him.

when we hoisted the booth back up, shards of broken glass were everywhere. i cannot thank god enough for not letting anything serious happen to the boys. we are fortunate and lucky and will not be making this mistake ever again.

please, tether your furniture. i can't even let my mind imagine would could have happened if alex had been standing a step to the right.

tether.

pressed for time.

Pressed

max marched in from school last night and shoved a single flower at me. "here," he said. i thanked him and excitedly exclaimed that i'd press it behind glass so we could save it for all time. when i showed him the framed flower he told me that the flower was actually for him, not for me.

sigh. at least he liked it!

playing footsie.

Footsie

i caught the boys playing footsie this morning while eating their cereal. how cute are they?

we missed school breakfast yet again this morning. and in our rush to be an hour late i totally forgot to bring the boys' backpacks today. the boys are potty trained now, but i just knew the one day they didn't have a change of clothes would be the one day they needed them. i had a bazillion errands to run this morning, one of which included at stop at target, so i picked up some cute new jeans and a crazy motorcycle shirt to drop at the school just in case. i can't wait to take a picture of them in that crazy shirt!

on another note, tripper came home with a little something yesterday ...

Newcar

wow! the boys are crazy in love and talked about the new car the entire way to school. i hope tripper is able to shuffle the car seats this afternoon so they can ride home in it today!

the boys on a bench.

Bench

every morning i race around like a lunatic trying to get the boys to school before the clock chimes 8:30. the hour and a half before that includes some eye rubbing, a little bed jumping, picking out clothes, a show or two, getting dressed, getting undressed, getting redressed and breakfast at home. breakfast at home is usually four different types of cereal thrown in a bowl and all mixed up together. when it's time to go, the remaining contents of that bowl are tossed into a "snack pack" that we take in the car.

once at school, the boys have the opportunity to eat a real breakfast (things like pancakes or bacon or eggs and always a fruit) so long as they are there before 8:30. i love them getting to eat two breakfasts because the boys really just don't eat. and this is another chance to hopefully down at least a fork full.

since christmas break, we have yet to make it to school in time for breakfast. today we got there one minute late. *sigh.* hopefully we'll be back on track by next week. in the meantime we have climbed up onto this bench outside the classroom door each day to finish our snack packs (outside food is not allowed in the classroom).

i have to say as much as i'd like to be back to our routine, these 15 minutes each morning have been quite delightful. the boys talk and tell me all kinds of stories i otherwise would never have heard. for instance, did you know that the red power ranger is called jayden and that he has a sword he uses to fight for justice? well, now you do.

growth spurt.

the boys are outgrowing again! we've just posted some stuff up on craigslist. please pass the word along if you know of anyone looking!

two baby bjorn potty chairs in white: $10 each. Update: GONE!

Photo_1

two crib mattresses: $30 each.

Photo_1

two toddler beds: $45 each or both for $75. Update: GONE!

Oldtoddlerbeds

i *may* also have their toddler bedding for sale. then again, i may not. i'm on the fence about it. if i do, it's the pottery barn kids madras plaid quilt and sham and the story time sheet sets. right now i'm feeling sentimental and don't want to part with it—but it is taking up quite a bit of space in my linen closet. what to do? what to do???

anyway, thanks for spreading the word. way to grow, boys!
